November Artist of the Month

November Artist of the Month: Audrey Tamasy

This November, The Art Store is excited to shine a spotlight on Audrey Tamasy (@a_flyingfish47), an imaginative and expressive artist whose work draws inspiration from nature, mysticism, and emotion.

Working primarily with acrylic paints, colored pencils and alcohol markers, Audrey brings a vibrant, unconventional mixed media energy to their art, influenced by their roots on Florida's east coast.

With a vivid imagination and a constant flow of ideas, Audrey approaches art as an opportunity to experiment, explore, and bring their internal world to life in the outside world.

A Creative Journey Rooted in Imagination

Audrey has been creating art for as long as they can remember. Although art was always a natural part of their life, they began taking their creative practice more seriously in high school through their theatre's stagecraft program, where they developed their skills painting detailed theatrical sets.

Today, Audrey continues to embrace that same spirit of experimentation. Their favorite mediums are colored pencils and alcohol markers, which allow them to explore color, detail, and creative expression.

When it comes to developing artistic skills, Audrey believes in the importance of time, intention, and simply showing up to create.

"If I feel inspired, I just go for it, and if it's not perfect, it is simply a part of the practice. The more I practice, the more my skills develop."

It's a refreshing reminder that artistic growth doesn't come from perfection, but from the willingness to keep creating!

Finding Inspiration in Nature, Mysticism, and Emotion

Audrey finds inspiration in the natural world, mysticism, and the many emotions that shape the human experience. Two artists who have had a meaningful influence on their creative perspective are Veronica Steiner and Ramin Nazar.

Audrey admires Veronica Steiner's ability to capture the beauty of nature through a playful and surreal lens. They are also inspired by Ramin Nazar's poignant, playful, and authentic expressions of truth.

Growing up on Florida's Atlantic coast has also helped shape the vibrant and unconventional energy that finds its way into Audrey's work.

Inside Audrey's Creative World

Creativity doesn't always happen on a schedule, and for Audrey, some of the best ideas come later in the day. They feel most creative after 4 p.m., enjoying the evening hours when their imagination really starts flowing...although these days, 9:30 p.m. is about as late as they'll stay up! (I think we all feel that!)

Their creative soundtrack is just as eclectic as their artistic influences. Audrey enjoys listening to a little bit of everything, with math rock band Covet and Bob Marley among their favorites. They're also a big fan of podcasts and audiobooks, especially The Duncan Trussell Family Hour, which never fails to get them into a creative space.

And when it comes to background television? Audrey prefers something wonderfully mundane: Their current guilty pleasure is 90 Day Fiancé, the perfect show to tune "in and out of" while working on an art piece!

Currently, Audrey transforms their bedroom into a combined living and creative space, though they hope to upgrade to a dedicated studio environment in the future to create more room for artistic possibilities.

Why Art Matters

For Audrey, art is much more than making something beautiful. They believe art is essential to a healthy society because it gives us a way to express ourselves, innovate, experiment, and process the world around us.

Art has the power to bring people together, strengthen communities, and inspire responses that ripple far beyond the individual artist.

As Audrey puts it:

"Without art we lose access to creation and the ability to manifest our internal world."
It's a powerful perspective that speaks to the importance of creativity, especially during these challenging times.

A Message to Fellow Artists

When asked what they believe every artist should hear, Audrey shared a message that beautifully captures their philosophy and passion for creating:

"Use your art as a way to engage with and move through suffering. The world needs your art now."

We couldn't agree more!

Art gives us the opportunity to transform our experiences into something meaningful, connect with others, and make sense of a complicated and troubled world. Audrey's approach reminds us that the creative process doesn't need to be perfect to be powerful.

Join us in celebrating Audrey Tamasy as The Art Store's November Artist of the Month! We're thrilled to share their creative perspective and celebrate the imagination, experimentation, and authenticity they bring to the artistic community.
