Artist of the Month: Noah Mayer

For the month of May, The Art Store is proud to spotlight local artist Noah Mayer, an artist whose creative journey is rooted in rediscovery, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace the unknown!

Noah, a Leo, didn’t always see himself as an artist. Although he grew up in a family that valued creativity, art wasn’t something he gravitated toward early on. It wasn’t until his freshman year of college (armed with a sketchbook on a long car ride) that something clicked. By the end of that trip, he was hooked! Looking back, he credits his upbringing for quietly shaping his perspective, ultimately allowing art to become a safe and playful space in his adult life.

Today, Noah primarily works with acrylic on canvas, though he finds a special kind of freedom in the simplicity of pen and paper. His work is influenced by a blend of fine art and nostalgia - drawing inspiration from artists like George Condo, as well as his lifelong love of cartoons. That sense of playfulness continues to echo throughout his work, giving it both emotional depth and an imaginative edge.

More recently, Noah has also found inspiration in the children he works with, whose creativity and openness have helped inform his own approach. Whether he’s listening to EDM, neo-soul, rap, or alternative music - or even watching a bit too much Drag Race while painting- he leans into whatever fuels his creative energy in the moment.

A self-proclaimed night owl, Noah prefers working after dark, when the world quiets down and distractions fade. It’s often during these late hours, especially while immersed in music, that he feels most creative. His workspace reflects that energy: a dedicated art room tucked in the back of his apartment, complete with a big comfy chair and walls that proudly bear the marks of past projects.

Central to Noah’s artistic growth is his commitment to stepping outside his comfort zone. He actively chooses the paths that feel uncertain or intimidating, believing those moments lead to the greatest development... and often, the most rewarding results! For him, creating isn’t just about the final product; it’s about being fully immersed in the process. That sense of exploration and engagement is what keeps him coming back.

At its core, Noah believes art is something deeply human - an essential form of connection that brings people together in ways words often cannot. His personal philosophy reflects that belief: "Don’t lose sight of what first made you fall in love with art in the first place!"
