Happy Watercolor Month, Studio Society!
July is all about flowing color, luminous washes, and fresh inspiration. But let’s not forget one of the most important tools in your watercolor kit: your brushes! Whether you’re working with da Vinci, Princeton, Silver Brush Ltd., or another favorite, taking proper care of your brushes ensures they last longer, perform better, and stay ready for every new creative wave.
This week, we’re focusing on brush care essentials—because the right soap makes all the difference!

Brush Care 101
Here are a few quick tips to keep your brushes in top shape:

Rinse Immediately: Never let paint dry in the bristles—especially with watercolor pigments that can cake near the ferrule.

Use Lukewarm or Cool Water: Avoid hot water, which can damage natural hair and loosen the glue inside the brush handle.

Lather & Gently Swirl: Use a small amount of your chosen soap and work it through the bristles with your fingers or in the palm of your hand. Swirl gently—never scrub.

Shape & Dry Horizontally: After rinsing, reshape the bristles and let brushes dry flat or bristle-end down to avoid water seeping into the ferrule. We even have a brush drying rack that will support you in this "upside down" endeavor!
