Illustration Week!

This week marks the beginning of something special at The Art Store—we're celebrating the vibrant, imaginative world of illustration! For our Studio Society Members (and all creative adventurers) it’s the perfect time to explore new tools, rediscover old favorites, and push your creative boundaries!

We’re featuring some of our most-loved illustration supplies: Koi Markers from Sakura, Pitt Artist Pens from Faber-Castell, Pantone Markers, and Bienfang Marker Paper. Whether you’re restocking or trying something new, these tools are all about bold lines, vivid color, and expressive possibilities.

But we also want to shine a spotlight on a versatile medium that deserves a permanent spot in your illustration toolkit: Holbein Acrylic Gouache.

Why Acrylic Gouache?

Holbein Acrylic Gouache combines the best of both worlds. It offers the rich, matte finish of traditional gouache with the permanence and flexibility of acrylic. Once dry, it's waterproof and won’t lift - making it ideal for layering, mixing with other media (like markers!) and building depth without muddying colors.

Artists love it for its smooth, even coverage, punchy pigments, and velvety matte surface - which also makes scanning or photographing your work a breeze. It dries quickly, so you can work efficiently and achieve clean, crisp edges. And since it's waterproof when dry, it’s a perfect base for linework, shading, or fine detailing with pens and markers.
