Graphite in Motion is a 2-hour exploratory workshop led by local artist and Art Store favorite Sharon Blair, designed to demystify the expressive power of water-soluble graphite.
Often seen as mysterious (even intimidating) this versatile medium sits quietly at the foundation of so many artistic practices. From watercolor and illustration to painting and traditional drawing, graphite is a core language every artist speaks, whether they realize it or not. In this class, Sharon invites you to slow down, loosen up, and discover how graphite can move, flow, dissolve, and transform when combined with water.
Students will explore graphite as both line and wash, learning how it bridges drawing and painting while strengthening observational skills, value control, and expressive mark-making. Whether you’re a painter looking to deepen your underdrawing, an illustrator seeking more fluidity, a graphite artist ready to expand your toolbox (or someone who’s never picked up a pencil before) this workshop offers valuable insights for every creative path!
No experience is necessary. All skill levels are welcome, and all materials are provided. The class is taught in a supportive, encouraging environment where curiosity is celebrated and experimentation is key. Just bring an open mind and a willingness to learn! Everything else is waiting for you.
